What I learned in Vegas: Tip #1

I thought I would escape the blazing heat of Las Vegas (110 degrees today!) and share with you all some of the great advise I learned while down here at the USATF level II Course.  Everyday I will do my best to share at least one training tip that could help you in your preparation for this fall.

Today's tip: When doing strides, I found out that we were not utilizing this energy system to its full potential.  Instead of running our strides at about 75% MHR, we should be running them between 90-95% MHR.  So, let's make the change now!  Make sure you have room to build into the desired distance, then carry your full stride all the way through between 90%-95% MHR before slowly coming to a stop.  Remember, you should still build into your stride and slowly come to a stop after your stride so not to pull anything.  Stay relaxed and let the speed come to you!  Varsity athletes, and those who have them, I would recommend you bring spikes to practice on stride days to help work on your turn over and posture.

More to come from my "Vegas Vacation", stay tuned...
