In this race alone, the American, NCAA and High School records were broken Saturday night at the Armory in New York. Bernard Lagat, 37 years old, looked smooth as ever as he set a new US record in 13:07, taking back his American record from Portland, Oregon native Galen Rupp. It was also a huge race for high school sensation Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J. as he became the first high school runner to break 14:00, finishing eighth in 13:57.04.
